The Boys season 3 episode 5 recap: fans react to Maeve and Butcher’s [spoiler] scene, Seth Rogen cameo, praise Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy & more

From Homelander (Antony Starr) to Solider Boy (Jensen Ackles) and even Starlight (Erin Moriarty) – The Boys season 3 episode 5 featured a lot of (Major spoilers ahead!) heartbreaks, leaving a multitude of viewers in despair. But the Seth Rogen cameo, Butcher (Karl Urban) and Maeve’s (Dominique McElligott) steamy fraternizing scene and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) and Frenchie’s (Tomer Capone) wholesome romance has fans juggling their mixed feelings, eagerly twiddling thumbs for what lies ahead in “Herogasm”. Before discussing the sixth episode, here’s a quick recap of episode 5 and some of the fan reactions that followed on social media.

With cowards in suits joining Vought’s board, Ashley (Colby Minifie) as the new CEO and The Deep (Chace Crawford) taking control as the Head of Crime Analytics, things finally seemed to be going Homelander’s way. But that’s until The Boys season 3 episode 5 officially put Soldier Boy on The Seven’s radar. Watching Homelander zone out seeing the CCTV footage makes it seem like the unstoppable force might have met his immovable object match. And Soldier boy’s touchdown in the USA may have already hinted at his disdain for LGBTQ, Russians and the new world in general, which he finds hard to accept. Perhaps that could be a feeling he could relate with the Seven’s captain?

Maeve got better screen time in episode 5, particularly alongside Butcher and fans either love it or are sickened to see the two characters’ hatred for each other play out with a raunchy supe-on-human sex scene.  Though it could be Maeve’s last fond memory considering her confrontation with Homelander lead to her kidnap by Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell). While episode 5 featured another gruesome death with Crimson Countess (Laurie Holden), fans were more in awe by her scene as a supe camgirl though the bigger surprise was seeing Seth Rogen busting a nut on the other side of the screen. Readers can check out reactions below.

The Legend’s (Paul Reiser) introduction, a Stan Lee-inspired character from The Boys Universe seems to be on the good side, helping out M.M (Laz Alonso) in locating Soldier boy. Meanwhile, Episode 5’s musical number has won many hearts, but watching Frenchie’s fate with little Nina (Katia Winter) hanging by a thread while Kimiko sadly waits for him in the hospital begs the question if he would make it out alive in the next episode. It’s more devastating to know she no longer has the powers to rescue him as well.

The Boys showrunner has teased emotional moments in Herogasm so hopefully, it doesn’t end with the axing of one of fans’ beloved characters. Moreover, Butcher’s parallels with Hughie (Jack Quaid), seeing his brother in him may be the first hint that he realizes his toxic influence has gotten hold of Hughie.  Still, it’s not the only problem Butcher has to face after he knocked out M.M to form an alliance with Soldier boy. Could this be the last straw that pushes M.M over the edge?

The Boys season 3 episode 6 will air next Friday on Prime Video.
