The Conjuring franchise which established the breeding ground for Warner Bros. and New Line’s horror films seem all set to move forward with its third installment, The Conjuring 3. Both Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be back to reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren and will once again be taking on a story based on true events.
According to Production Weekly’s recent listing, The Conjuring 3 will reportedly begin production on June 3 in Atlanta. The threequel will be directed by Michael Chaves who also helmed the upcoming horror film The Curse of La Llorona.
James Wan is still a part of the project and franchise as a producer through his company Atomic Monster. If the details regarding the movie’s production start date is true then we can expect some casting announcements soon.
Earlier last year in December, Bloody Disgusting reported the plot details for The Conjuring 3 which was later confirmed by Wan.
“It’s this guy who was on trial for committing a murder,” Wan said. “I think it’s the first time in America’s history where the defendant used possessions as a reason, as an excuse.”
Wan stated the third installment would be different compared to the last two titles. but the franchise isn’t moving away from its source material and sticks to story from Warren’s case files.
“All the Conjuring films are based on the case files, so they’re more based on the true story aspect of the real life Warrens. I think that’s important. It’s important that the mothership stays true to the inspiration of the real people. The spinoffs are where we get to have more fun and do weird and wonderful crazy things. The mothership of it being the Conjuring films, we want it to come back to the real stuff.”
The Conjuring 3 is expected to land in theaters on September 11, 2020.
