The box office success of the recently released horror drama film, The Nun, has made the growing paranormal Conjuring movie universe stronger than ever before. The franchise has now become the biggest R-rated horror series of all time raking in a total of around $1.333.5 billion. And it looks like the franchise success’ is making way for the studio to fast-track its next project, The Conjuring 3.
While the next inline Conjuring spinoff film, Annabelle 3, is gearing up to shoot this fall, producer Peter Safran has already offered some major updates on The Conjuring 3 film.
During an interview with Cinema Blend, Safran revealed that work on The Conjuring 3 script has already begun as the film is aiming to start production in 2019.
“It’s actually coming along great,” Safran said about The Conjuring 3 script. “David Lindsay Johnson is working on the screenplay, and I feel pretty confident they will have that one up and running next year.”
The Conjuring franchise producer, however, didn’t comment on whether The Conjuring 1&2 director James Wan will be returning for the third chapter as well.
Last year when Wan was asked if he was up for The Conjuring 3, he admitted that his work on Aquaman would keep him from directing the third entry in the series. But, it was when the third Conjuring film was expected to begin filming this year. Now, that the film is scheduled to go into production next year and Wan hasn’t lined up any new projects after Aquaman, which releases in theaters in December this year, there are chances that he might return to bring the Conjuring trilogy to a close.
While The Conjuring 3 plot details are still under wraps, it is expected that the upcoming film’s story will pick up sometime after the events of Conjuring 2. Safran had previously confirmed that the third Conjuring movie will move away from the haunted house setup that was used in the previous two films.
Pursue News will update you with the latest details about The Conjuring 3 as it comes in.
