While The Flash Season 4 premiere featured a lot of exciting moments, the fans were also surprised with an interesting Easter egg. Entertainment publication Comicbook was the first one to report about a Samurai Jack Easter Egg featured in Episode 1 titled “Flash Reborn.”
The Flash Season 4 premiere showcased how Wally, Joe and Iris continue to deal with problems while Barry is away. A flying samurai attacks Central City and creates chaos. As he comes face to face with Wally he demands to see “the real Flash” otherwise threatening to destroy the city.
During a discussion at the S.T.A.R LABS Cisco refers to the menacing samurai as “Samurai Jackass.” It is said that the reference is to Adult Swim’s action-adventure animated series, Samurai Jack.
The series tells the story of “Jack,” a samurai, in a dystopian world. It is ruled by a tyrannical shape-shifting demon named Aku. Meanwhile, Jack struggles to go back in time and bring down Aku before he takes over the world. The series premiered in August 2001 and has featured five seasons before it concluding in March 2017.
It is said that there has been more than one reference to the series. A Samurai Jack fan community on Reddit reportedly noted the resemblance between Barry’s scribbling and the logo that represents the samurai’s Japanese clan.
For its first four seasons, Samurai Jack aired on Cartoon Network. It was later picked up by Adult Swim that aired its concluding season. Genndy Tartakovsky’s series won eight Primetime Emmy Awards and six Annie Awards.
Following the explosive premiere, The Flash Season 4 is set to air its episode 2 titled “Mixed Signals.” In the upcoming segment, Barry deals with a dangerous metahuman who can manipulate technology. Meanwhile, he deals with problems in his personal life and consequences of being away from Iris.
