FOX’s television series The Gifted was renewed for a second season even before its first season concluded. Now, based on the latest update regarding its production, the series is expected to soon begin the filming of Season 2.
According to the recent listing from Production Weekly, The Gifted Season 2 will continue to progress under the working title “Heaven,” the same as Season 1. The filming will reportedly begin on May 30 and lasts until November and will take place somewhere in Atlanta.
The long filming schedule leaves us with the question whether the series will return with season 2 this year or not. There is no release date yet for The Gifted Season 2. However, it was expected to arrive around the same time as Season 1.
The show is closely linked to X-Men film series and follows the life of two parents Reed and Caitlin Strucker who are on the run with their teenage mutant children. Ever since they discovered that their children possess mutant powers they are running from the government in order to protect their children and join and undercover community of mutants who are fighting for their survival.
The Season 1 finale featured a few major twists. The Gifted Season 2 is expected to pick it up from where it left off in Season 1 finale. The Mutant Underground’s Atlanta base was destroyed. At the same time, a United States senator was killed by the mutants and they must deal with the consequences when the show returns. With Mutant Underground gone, fans can expect to see the role of the new Hellfire Club and Purifiers.
Speaking with Access Online at Fox Upfronts in New York City, The Gifted cast revealed what’s next in Season 2 after the fall of Mutant Underground.
“It’s totally different dynamic in terms of leadership roles,” Jamie Chung said about The Gifted Season 2. “I feel like there is been a huge shift in that. And in terms of the goal, I think everyone still wants the same goal which is to have equality between mutants and humans but there are two different groups that are going about it in two completely different ways. You know it will be interesting how it unravels.”
“I definitely think you are going to get a sense of like, we always blur the line between good and evil,” Skyler Samuels explained. “And I think when underground blows up at the end of season 1, it’s like everyone is starting over on a different side. So I think it’s going to be fun to see some of our good guys go bad and bad guys go good.”
