The Grudge Reboot’s First Photo From Set Reveals Film’s Official Title

The production work on Sony’s The Grudge reboot film is currently underway. The 2004 released Grudge was a remake of the 2002 Japanese film Ju-On: The Grudge, which was written and directed by Takashi Shimazu. The film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar raked in a worldwide total of $187.3 million on a mere $10 million budget. Gellar played a nurse in the original film who was afflicted by a curse that created uncontrollable homicidal rage.

The new supernatural, horror reboot film titled Grudge is currently scheduled to debut in theaters on August 16, 2019. The filmmakers recently shared an image of the film’s slate on Grudge’s official Twitter account with a caption that read, “A new #Grudge is forming in 2019. Follow the @GrudgeMovie Instagram for more!

Talking more about the upcoming film, The Eyes Of My Mother fame Nicolas Pesce has been roped in to rewrite The Grudge reboot film’s existing script and take on directing duties. The movie is set to star Andrea Riseborough, Demian Bichir, John Cho, Lin Shaye, Betty Gilpin, Jacki Weaver, William Sadler, and Frankie Faison.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA), Ghost House, and Good Universe, the companies responsible for the hit thriller Don’t Breathe, will produce The Grudge reboot film. Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi will produce the film for Ghost House along with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman who are executive producing for Good Universe alongside Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee, Doug Davison, John Middleton, and Andrew Pfeffer. Erin Westerman and Romel Adam will oversee the film on behalf of Ghost House and Brady Fujikawa will oversee for Good Universe.

We are so excited about this new adaptation,” producer Sam Raimi said about the film. “We went back to the original source material to deliver a relentless supernatural thrill ride that explores the horrors of American suburbia.”
