MCU’s Phase 5 title, The Marvels will be a one of a kind cosmic adventure sequel, partly for featuring an all-female-led feature but also for connecting Captain Marvel 2 with WandaVision’s Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan. Speaking of whom, it seems the much anticipated second installment will finally give Rambeau a superhero name, and an insider claims to know the details.
The Marvels movie from director Nia DaCosta recently screened its first footage at D23 Expo. Description from attendees confirmed that Ms. Marvel, Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers swap places when they use their powers as their abilities are entwined. It’s Captain Rambeau who explains Kamala Khan but similarly when Ms. Marvel quizzes her about her energy transmitting and absorption abilities – the young superhero gives her a deserving superhero alias.
According to insider CanWeGetSomeToast, a social media account known for dropping credible Marvel scoops, Monica Rambeau’s hero name will be “Photon”. Moreover, the alias is given to her by Kamala Khan. Readers can check it out in the tweet below.
Got a little scoop for ya: Monica Rambeau’s “hero name” is gonna be Photon in #TheMarvels. Kamala gives her the name after Monica explains her powers! It’s so cute 😭

It should also be noted that in 2019’s Captain Marvel, Maria Rambeau’s (Lashana Lynch) call sign was “PHOTON”. Perhaps in The Marvels, Rambeau would see it as a sign of coincidence and embrace the name wholeheartedly. Though there’s no confirmation yet so fans are advised to take it with a grain of salt.
While Captain Rambeau’s powers were introduced in WandaVision, the series barely scratched the surface in further exploring her arc and likewise, Ms. Marvel series only addressed Kamala’s Embiggen powers at the end. In addition, since the trailers have indicated that the three super-powered beings are inter-connected by their abilities, perhaps The Marvels could also dig deeper into Bruno’s claim that Kamala is a Mutant. If so, could the same apply to Monica?
What’s more, According to SlashFilm, the three Marvels will also face a hammer-wielding female villain who appears to be a Kree. It’s interesting since the alien race is responsible for creating Kree in the comics, its possible that Kevin Feige is reimagining the notion of Inhuman and Mutant for the MCU.
There are a lot of plot points to address in the upcoming second installment and hopefully, all shall be answered when The Marvels arrives in theatres on July 28, 2023.
