The Nun 2‘s massive earnings indicate Warner Bros. Pictures banked more from The Nun sequel than Shazam! Fury of the Gods & could add The Flash movie to the list too. The James Wan-produced supernatural horror revisits The Conjuring franchise through Valak and pitting the demon Nun against Taissa Farmiga‘s Sister Irene from the first film.
Warner Bros. Pictures may have to consider shifting its focus to the Horror franchise, which arguably looks more profitable than the DC Film brand, considering its recent misfires. The Nun 2’s fruitful box office run appears to be following in the footsteps of the original film. Its third weekend earnings have set its global returns at $204M with Deadline reporting it could go past Annabelle Comes Home’s $231.2M.
Surprisingly, The Nun 2 has passed the $200M mark worldwide with a low-cost budget of $38M. While Shazam! Fury of the Gods reportedly cost approx. $110M and ended its global run at $133M.
The Nun 2 initially set out with a $32.6M opening weekend, an estimate lower than the 2016 debut. However, the sequel has been the number-one film at the box office for three weeks in a row. It is undoubtedly good news for James Wan, the creator of The Conjuring franchise & producer of the sequel, especially at a time when the comic book movie genre’s saturation has raised doubts over Aquaman 2 repeating the success of the predecessor title.
#TheNun2 crossed 200M mark at Global #BoxOffice, after grossing strong 20.8M on 3rd weekend overseas, just a -30.9% drop thanks to powerful 3.2M debut in #Germany and strong holds everywhere, for a 135M intl. cume over 72 markets.

I don’t understand why there aren’t at least 2 Conjuring movies a year, they are such reliable hits for WB
They don’t even all need to be explicitly connected, just use the franchise as a label! https://t.co/bsNpXKbmuR

The box office hit horror sequel has raised queries on why WB fails to expand The Conjuring universe with the same degree of attention shown towards DC Films. Some acknowledged its lack of critical acclaim but still managed to draw moviegoers to theaters, unlike DC Studios’ last two entries.
Box office analysts predict The Nun sequel is eying a global run of 275M-290M. While it’s comparatively lesser than the first movie’s $365M, The Nun 2 could go past The Flash movie’s $268M global run. If the prediction pans out, the overblown $200 million plus costing entry would fall behind an inexpensive horror sequel.
While WBD has hired James Gunn & Peter Safran to oversee the DC Studios division – the studio has yet to find a replacement to head the horror division since Walter Hamada‘s exit. It was under the former WB president, that The Conjuring universe expanded into a profitable franchise. Currently, Jesse Ehrman is responsible for overseeing the development of horror films.
On the plus side, for the Andy Muscheitti-directed speedster, The Flash holds the second spot on Nielsen ratings. The Ezra Miller starrer feature continues to earn more viewers on SVOD than it managed to secure seats on the big screen.
Just saw this today. It was definitely an improvement over the first one https://t.co/loHUSApkfA

Scream 6, Evil Dead Rise and Talk To Me remind me that horror movies can still be great
This is a one that tells me that this particular franchise sucks without James Wan or David F. Sandberg at the helm https://t.co/peTvcymL1c
