Later this September, fans will once again get to experience the spine-chilling horror element from The Conjuring Universe in New Line’s The Nun Movie. Recently, a still from the film and a poster was unveiled by Empire which will be part of the magazine’s July issue.
The picture shared by the magazine was a cropped version. But now, Warner Bros. has released a hi-res and full-size version of the photo. You can find it below.
The still shows a Nun wandering in a dark basement holding out a lamp. The crosses surrounding her doesn’t help much in reassuring the place is safe, especially from Valak, the film’s antagonist.
The studio also released its first trailer giving a glimpse of its dark and gritty visuals. The video begins by requesting the viewer to watch it through end, hinting a possible jump scare moment. Does it have it though? You’ll have to watch it below.
The Nun poster teases the film as the darkest chapter in the Conjuring universe. Since making its first appearance as the demonic nun in The Conjuring 2, fans have been waiting to learn about Valak and its origin. The character was also teased in the ending of Annabelle: Creation.
The Nun is directed by Corin Hardy from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman. James Wan is credited for penning the story along with Dauberman.
The Nun is set in the 1950s during when a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life. A priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun which will come to be known as Valak that first terrorized audiences in “The Conjuring 2,” as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
As reported earlier, The Nun is confirmed to release this year on September 7. So, fans can look forward to more promo content from The Nun in the following month.
