Marvel Studios has released a new motion poster for The Punisher Season 2 that is confirmed to arrive on Netflix this month. The motion poster teases a highly-anticipated showdown between Frank Castle’s (Jon Bernthal) and his friend-turned-enemy Billy Russo (Ben Barnes).
The poster shows headshots of Frank and Billy fading to pictures of their respective alter egos. Frank is eventually shown with the iconic Punisher skull, while Billy is shown both with and without a mask, which covers his scarred face, teasing his look as Jigsaw. You can check out the motion poster below.
The Punisher season 1 saw Frank uncovering a government conspiracy while seeking revenge for the death of his family. It ended in a climactic battle between The Punisher and Russo that led to Russo’s handsome face being disfigured.
In the comics, after Russo gets over his injuries he turns into Jigsaw, but according to actor Ben Barnes, the show will be reimagining the villain to be somewhat different than his comic counterpart.
During an interview with CBR, Barnes revealed that the injuries have impacted Russo’s memory and has turned him into an almost different character from the first season.
“I think what I’m allowed to say is that it’s not just about the physical,” Barnes explained. “He’s had his head very much traumatized in the same way that veterans receive this kind of head traumas and psychological trauma as well, so he’s dealing with both of those things very much in a similar way to how veterans might deal with TBIs from coming back from war and everything,” Barnes explained. “I think that that is what he sort of believes he’s gone through and he’s got brain damage and he’s got severe issues with his memory.”
While Barnes did not go into details about what Russo can and can’t remember about his past, he did tease that his brain has turned into a jigsaw puzzle which he will try to put the pieces back together.
The Punisher Season 2 stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Josh Stewart as John Pilgrim, Giorgia Whigham as Amy Bendix, and Floriana Lima as Krista Dumont.
The Punisher Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on Friday, January 18.
