Sony Pictures is promoting the upcoming Spider-Verse 2 as the start of a spider war when Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) becomes the target of Miguel O’Hara and the Spider-people. New TV Spots and international posters for Across the Spider-Verse have been offering extended visuals of the numerous spideys from the multiverse defenders group led by Spider-Man 2099.
With tickets on sale, Sony is amping up marketing for Spider-Verse 2 by releasing brief clips teasing the new dimensions like the Spider-punks universe and characters like Toei Spider-Man (as spotted by one eagle-eyed fan in a poster). The image in question shows a spidey with what looks like the spider bracelet worn by Toei Spider-Man in the 1970s Japanese version superhero. Furthermore, the studio is also making collaborations with food chains like Burger King to release spider-verse-themed burgers & toys whilst setting up different Spider-Verse standees in theaters across the globe. Burger King has also gone as far as changing their outlet’s design with spider-verse-themed comic panel layouts.
Recent promotional materials have showcased new shots of Spider-Man 2211, an eerie dark look at The Spot, an electrifying character design of Hobart Brown & more. Speaking of whom, Spider-Verse 2’s VFX supervisor Michael Lasker responded to one of the promos to emphasize the collaboration “between animation, visual development, lighting and motion graphics teams” to bring the character to life.
While Spidey fans have been hyping the new marketing materials for Across the Spider-Verse – the recent international 4DX posters faced criticism as many claimed the promo uses Insomniac Spider-Man designs from the 2018’s PS4 game renders rather than the models created for the movie. but all in all, the fanbase has been appreciative of the cameo designs. The teasers have heavily been implying Miles Morales could be forced to desert the Spider-people team to save his father. Though it’s unclear which side Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) would stand in this confrontation. Nonetheless, Brooklyn’s Spidey won’t just be fighting The Spot but will also face a big hurdle in Spider-Man 2099.
Across the Spider-Verse will sling into theaters on June 2, 2023.
