The Walking Dead Season 8 episode 2 brought back a long-forgotten fan-favorite character, Morales (Juan Gabriel Pareja). The man who was once Rick’s friend returned as his enemy and is now dead.
Morales was last seen at the end of Season 1 when he parted ways with Rick and the group to be with his family in Alabama. The two parted ways on a good note. Rick had given Morales a gun to keep himself safe on his journey back home. However, it seems that he never reached Alabama and Morales joined Saviour.
In episode 2, Morales made a surprising return. He was seen holding Rick (Andrew Lincoln) at the gunpoint at the Saviour outpost.
“It’s over, Rick. I called the Saviours back, and they’re coming,” Morales told Rick in episode 2. The episode ended on a cliffhanger with Morales taking an aim at Rick.
The following episode reveals that Daryl (Norman Reedus) was in the same building and he comes to rescue Rick on time. Fans know that only one out of the two characters will make out of the Saviour outpost alive. Daryl enters the room to save Rick and attacks Morales with an arrow in his face.
According to Comicbook, Morales death may not have been shown explicitly on the camera, but the way Daryl removes the arrow from his head reveals his fate. Also, the website notes that Morales family never made it to Birmingham. Unfortunately, they were killed on their way. As for Morales, he was later saved by Saviours.
“I can’t say too much, but we’ll definitely learn a little bit of a backstory from Morales and what’s been going on with him over the years, and a little bit of what’s lead to his transformation and transition into one of Negan’s men as a Savior,” actor Pareja told Entertainment Weekly about his character’s return to The Walking Dead and backstory.
The show’s rating has struggled by far but it looks like that’s about to change going by the unforeseen surprises. The Walking Dead Season 8 airs Sundays on AMC. Keep visiting Pursue News for more updates and information.
