Lauren Cohan’s fan-favorite character Maggie will be returning for The Walking Dead Season 9, confirms the actress. Fans can rest assured that her story has not ended yet.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at the Cinema Con in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, the actress who plays the role of a survivor Maggie Rhee, the leader of Hilltop and widow of Glenn Rhee revealed that she will be returning in the next season as she has finalized her agreement with AMC.
For a long time, there were speculations about Cohan’s return as her contract with AMC expired and she was negotiating for a better paycheck from the network. While the series stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus had already finalized their agreements, there was no update on Cohan’s contract.
As reported previously, Cohan had been in a dispute related to her contract with AMC. After the expiration of her contract, the actress sought a pay raise from the network in the light of her new contract. If the network agrees to her increment demands, it would put her closer to the leading actors like Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus in terms of their pay. However, the network hadn’t honored the actress’ request putting a question on her fate with the network in question.
“Yes, I’m going back,” Cohan told EW, adding, “There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell.”
However, Cohan refused to reveal details about her storyline in The Walking Dead Season 9, but she promises her fans “it’s good.”
“You know we’re not allowed to tell you anything, but it’s good,” Cohan said.
Cohan made her first appearance in the second season of The Walking Dead’s episode titled “Bloodletting.” She has played a prominent part in Rick Grime’s gang throughout the series. Considering the season 8 finale fallout between Rick and Maggie, it remains to see where it goes from here for her. Rick’s decision to spare Negan, angers Maggie and other members of the group. Maggie vowed to take action against Rick in the future.
The Walking Dead Season 9 starts filming next week and it is expected to premiere in fall 2018.
