Amid the drama surrounding Lauren Cohan’s contract with The Walking Dead, the series star Khary Payton urges the network to “Pay the Woman.” The actor who plays the role of fan-favorite character King Ezekiel, the leader of The Kingdom, shows support to Lauren Cohan.
Payton shared a photo of Cohan, who plays the role of Maggie Rhee, with his hundreds of Instagram followers with the caption: “Pay the woman.” Within a few hours, the photos has garnered 39,000 likes and hundreds of reactions.
Cohan reportedly has been in a dispute related to her contract with AMC. After the expiration of her contract the actress sought a pay raise from the network in the light of her new contract. If the network agrees to her increment demands, it would put her closer to the leading actors like Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus in terms of their pay. However, the network has not yet honored the actress’ request putting a question her fate with the network in question.
As per the report, the network did offer a “modest” raise in Cohan’s salary. However, it was rejected by her. The contract is yet to be finalized. Meanwhile, Cohan has signed up for ABC pilot titled “Whiskey Cavalier.”
Meanwhile, The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple commented on actress’ fate on the show. He revealed that he is positive that Cohan will return as Maggie for Season 9.
“We’re talking,” Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m pretty positive. We’re figuring it out. The timing could work well, so all good.”
“These things do happen,” Gimple explained. “We’ve had people do other shows and other gigantic movies that take America by storm. We’re figuring it out with each other and trying to let people be able to do other things and stick around. I shan’t even entertain the thought.”
Meanwhile, Gimple is stepping down as showrunner of the series. He will be taking up the new role as the chief content officer on The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead Season 8 airs Sundays on AMC. Stay tuned for more updates and information.
