While Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, which released on November 3 is smashing and busy setting new records at the box office, Weta Workshop just released a new BTS video that shows costume designers building Kirby inspired suits forthe movie’s characterss.
Thor: Ragnarok has opened to rave reviews and is running successfully all across the globe. The domestic total of the film as of Nov. 16, 2017 stood at $225,596,170, as per Box Office Mojo. In a recently released BTS clip, the costume designers spoke about how they made suits inspired by Kirby. Speaking about this, Costume technician Darine Gordine said, “I think Taika was quite keen to draw from a lot of Marvel history harking back to the old Kirby days.”
Throwing more light on the work on costumes that the characters wore in Thor: Ragnarok, Project Supervisor Lans Hansen narrated his experience working with costume designer Mayes C. Rubeo. He said, “We worked with Mayes before on Florida Walker and she has been brilliant to work with.” Talking about the various suits that thye had to create, Hansen said, “The first suit of armor that we started with vomit or Wagner was the scourge armor, he’s got this really iconic blue armor which is kind of a beaten metal look. We also created some Grand Master guards which was more cyber futuristic type armor. We made 16 suits in various colors.”
Talking about director Taika Watiti who plays one of the characters in the film, Hansen said, “He (Taika) plays a kind of a rock creature and we made in this amazing rock suit and a foam latex to help him get into the character.”
Commenting on the overall amazing and unique look and feel of the film, Lans Hansen further added, “Of all the films that I have worked on, I think this is probably the one I am most excited to see.”
Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins.
