Titans: Anna Diop Hits Back At Fans For Criticism Of Starfire Photos

A handful of photos from the set of action web-series Titans were recently leaked giving a glimpse at Anna Diop as Starfire, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, and Teagan Croft as Raven in their costumes. Titans is currently shooting in Toronto for the debut later this year.

The photos received “mixed-to-negative response from fans.” The character costumes and actors’ appearances were criticised by fans.

In a recent post on her official Instagram account, actress Diop who plays the role of a princess of the planet Tamaran in Vegan system responded to the backlash addressing Titans fans. She expressed her disappointment in the reaction from fans and according to her the picture was taken when she was “on a curb in 15-degree weather.”

She revealed that this picture is a misrepresentation of her “incredible character” and the efforts put into the translation of the character to live-action. Also, she expressed her disappointment in the speech that followed after the leak.

“I hated that this is the first picture people are seeing. It’s out of context and it’s a misrepresentation of the incredible character I get to play. And also a misrepresentation of the phenomenal production behind it all.

With that said – the hate speech that followed was deplorable. And though I am highly unbothered  I do want to use this as an opportunity to say that tearing people down is not something that I tolerate,” she wrote on her post along with her black and white glam shot. Scroll down to view the post.

Diop was most importantly disturbed by what she claims are racist comments referring to the color of her skin. She addressed the problem of racism, she revealed that she is unfazed by such comments. She reminded her fans that such comments do not define the person at the receiving end, but reveals a lot about the person making the comments.

Titans is a web television series that will air on DC Comics digital service. The series is based on Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti creation featuring Robin as the leader of the team of the same name. It follows the adventures of the above-mentioned four young superheroes.

#Breezy 🖤 To the ‘Titans’ fans: Yesterday a photo of me on set leaked online. And it was unfortunate because fans have been waiting MONTHS for a photo of ‘Starfire’ and a sloppy (😐) photo of me on a curb in 15 degree weather is what they got instead 😂 For the sake of our incredible fans – I hated that this is the first picture people are seeing. It’s out of context and it’s a misrepresentation of the incredible character I get to play. And also a misrepresentation of the phenomenal production behind it all. With that said – the hate speech that followed was deplorable. And though I am highly unbothered 💅🏿 I do want to use this as an opportunity to say that tearing people down is not something that I tolerate. For myself or anyone else. Too often social media is abused by some who find refuge in the anonymity and detachment it provides: misused as a tool to harass, abuse, and spew hatred at others. This is weak, sad, and a direct reflection of the abuser. Racist, derogatory, and/or cruel comments have nothing to do with the person on the receiving end of that abuse. And because I know this – I’m unfazed 🙂 But for anyone out there who may not – I am here to remind you that whatever ugly and negative thing anyone ever chooses to say about you is always a reflection and revelation of themselves- it does NOT define you, and it certainly does NOT make you any less perfect than you are – Be you! Stay beautiful! Live breezy 🙂 As always, Much love 💕
