Teen Titans is one of the most important superhero teams in the DC universe. Consisting of heroes like Nightwing, Starfire, Raven and Beast Boy, the team has proved its mettle time and again.
A live-action series called Titans was also announced a few months back. Following reports about what the series will show, it has officially chosen a lead actor who will be leading the roster of future superheroes.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that Australian actor and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ star Brenton Thwaites has been chosen to play the role of Dick Grayson a.k.a Nightwing in the live-action series.
DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns praised the actor and stated that Thwaites has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical appearance of the superhero.
Thwaites is known for his work in Maleficent and The Giver and certainly has the qualities to pull off a character like Grayson. As the future leader of the team, it would be interesting to see how does the character evolve on the show.
Grayson has an interesting history in the comics. His parents were murdered following which he was adopted by Bruce Wayne. Wayne trained him and Grayson became his sidekick called Robin.
However, after years of being Batman’s sidekick, Grayson struck out on his own and adopted the identity of Nightwing. He also made Bludhaven his city of operations and established himself as its protector.
Apart from Thwaites, Anna Diop has been cast as Starfire and Teagan Croft was revealed as Raven some time back. The team’s final member Beast Boy’s casting is yet to be announced.
DC announced the live-action series a few months back. A report stated that the new show would air on DC’s new branded digital service, which will be an altogether different experience for DC fans.
Titans will not be the only show airing on DC’s digital service as Young Justice season 3 will also air on it as well. Johns, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are serving as executive producers on the show as it prepares to air next year.
