Todd McFarlane continues to struggle to get the Spawn reboot movie in production. A new report confirms that the supernatural thriller project’s production has once again been pushed back.
Spawn reboot movie was expected to begin production as early as this year in May. But since then the project’s filming has been pushed to next year in January, then March and now, a new listings report from Production Weekly reveals that the project is eyeing June to start rolling the cameras.
Spawn is expected to be filmed in Toronto under the working title “Tony Dynamite”. By far, Jamie Foxx has been cast to play as Spawn and Jeremy Renner for the role of Twitch.
The legendary Greg Nicotero is confirmed to serve as the special effects make-up artist for the movie.
It’s unknown what may be causing the delay in production. But earlier this month, at NYCC, McFarlane vented his difficulties of trying to convince Hollywood to let him make the movie with a horror sitting while Hollywood sees it better falling under the superhero genre.
“Here’s what‘s frustrating about this process,” said McFarlane (via CBR). “Hollywood doesn’t get what I’m trying to do. I can tell by the notes they gave they just don’t understand it.”
Handling the writing, directing and producing, McFarlane is working with a relatively small budget of 10 million for the making of Spawn movie. But with Jason Blum of Blumhouse along his side, a studio that’s known for making some of the best low-budget movies with high-returns, perhaps, the project is in safe hands.
Not much is known about the project except that McFarlane looks to make a gritty R rated movie that’s entire differently from the tone that has been established in previous superhero movies. The creator/director has also teased that the Spawn suit will be redesigned to cater both to longtime fans as well moviegoers who are new to the character.
Spawn reboot movie does not have a release date assigned yet. More casting announcements are expected to come our way in the following months.
