‘Under 2 hours’: The Marvels rumored runtime reveals its shorter than any MCU film ever released dethroning Thor: Dark World but fans are divided

The Marvels might turn out to be the shortest comic book movie to ever be released under Marvel Studios. The Captain Marvel sequel which puts Brie Larson‘s Carol Danvers in the front and center alongside Iman Vellani‘s Kamala Khan and Teyonah Parris‘ Monica Rambeau is rumored to be under 2 hours.

With Dune out of the way due to a release date delay, The Marvels movie’s box office success has been the topic of conversation among fans and film pundits. The sequel’s debut week in theaters is expected to work in the studio’s favor with no blockbuster to compete not until The Hungers Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is released on November 17.

UPDATE: The Marvels runtime clocks in at 1 hour and 45 minutes, according to AMC theater listings.

While the test screening results were positive for The Marvels – the hurdles it faced during production such as multiple reshoots and on-set drama raised concerns. Nonetheless, anticipation is high to see the next chapter from Phase 5. But According to Cryptic HD Quality (an account known for being a good source providing runtime info), the next entry’s runtime stands at approximately 1 hour 38 minutes.

Excluding the credits, The Captain Marvel 2 stands at 1 hour 33 minutes though the insider also noted this isn’t final. The report was echoed by another well-known scooper CWGST while adding, “All killer, no filler” suggesting the movie does not spend time addressing events that occurred in other films/TV shows.

If The Marvels movie’s final runtime is locked at 97 minutes long, it would take the throne for being the shortest MCU movie ever made, leaving Thor: The Dark World and The Incredible Hulk in the second spot. The rumored report has already prompted responses from fans worried by the short length while others argue recent flicks such as TMNT: Mutant Mayhem have worked well with moviegoers.

Comic book movies with a short runtime, particularly titles under 2 hours have struggled to fare well with audiences and critics in the past. Movies clocking under 119 minutes or less of a runtime have been critiqued for being rushed, fast-paced and lacking weight in the narrative side to keep audiences engaged.

Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder was considered the shortest MCU flick in a long time (since Dark World), clocking in at 1 hour and 58 minutes. Sadly, it is remembered as one of the lowest-rated Marvel films on Rotten Tomatoes while being considered by many fans & critics as a misfire when compared to Thor: Ragnarok. Though on the bright side, there are also examples of critically acclaimed films like Ant-Man and the Wasp (118 minutes) finding success at the box office.

The Marvels is scheduled to grace theaters on November 10 but some have remained skeptical doubting if the Actors Strike could lead to a potential delay.
