Venom Box Office Earnings Is Inching Closer To Hit $500 Million Mark

Sony Picture’s Venom is expected to hit the $500 million mark this weekend in worldwide tallies. The film may not have gone down very well with critics, but, it received a great response from audiences.

The Tom Hardy-starrer film has got the highest earning October opening of all time, sailing past Gravity’s $55.7 million posted in 2013. It has already raked in $175.3 million in domestic earnings and $302.5 million at the foreign box office. Venom’s worldwide box office totals currently stand at a whopping $477.8 million, reported Deadline.

With Venom’s Japan release scheduled next week followed by a China release the following week, the film is expected to earn at least $600 million globally. Both Japan and China are strong markets for Hollywood releases. While fans were expecting Venom to be an R-rated film, Sony decided to pursue a PG-13 rating instead and it seems the decision has paid off well as it opened the film to a larger audience.

Venom’s global success has already paved way for a sequel film. The film’s end credits scene has confirmed Woody Harrelson’s incarcerated serial killer Cletus Kasady aka Carnage to be the anti-hero’s arch-nemesis in Venom 2. Furthermore, producer Avi Arad has also given some hint about Venom 2’s MPAA rating, which will likely be the same as first film.

Riding high on Venom’s success, Sony Pictures Entertainment has inked its first long-term, multi-picture deal with IMAX. The deal will see Sony’s upcoming films being digitally remastered and released in IMAX’s giant-screen format worldwide.  The list includes Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is set to release on July 5, 2019, the Men in Black spinoff film set to be out on June 14, 2019, and the sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle currently scheduled to release on Dec. 13, 2019.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer, Venom also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze,  Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.

Venom is now playing in theaters worldwide.
