Venom Box Office Earnings Will Increase As Movie Gets A Nov Release In China

Sony Pictures’ Venom has performed way better than expected, especially after mixed reviews from the critics and a low Rotten Tomatoes score. Through Sunday, the film has earned $142.8 million in North America and $235.3 million at the overseas box office, rounding off to an overall global total of around $378.1 million on an estimated $100 million production budget.

Well now, Venom is finally heading its way to China. According to a report coming from The Hollywood Reporter, the Chinese-based internet firm Tencent, which holds a 25 percent stake in the film, had confirmed that the Tom Hardy-starrer film will open in China on November 9. Venom will follow Shane Black’s reboot The Predator, which will release in China on Oct. 26.

Talking more about Venom, the film is based on the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book storylines. The film’s story follows the story of a journalist, Eddie Brock, who becomes host to a wildly powerful and equally dangerous alien symbiote while investigating a company called Life Foundation that experiment on humans. Riot, played by Riz Ahmed, will serve as the film’s main antagonist. It also stars Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, Sope Aluko, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Ron Cephas Jones, and Scott Deckert.

Ruben Fleischer has directed Venom from a script co-written by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, and Kelly Marcel.

Venom’s first credits scene, which airs in the middle of the credits, has already teased who will be the villain in the sequel film. It shows Woody Harrelson’s incarcerated serial killer Cletus Kasady telling Eddie that “there’s gonna be carnage.” It is expected that the sequel makers will be eyeing for a PG-13 rating for the film same as the current film.

Venom is currently playing in theatres.
