It’s common for big comic book movies to have their fair share of unanswered questions and plot holes. Well, Venom director Ruben Fleischer has also admitted to his film having one major plot hole.

The plot hole we are talking about happens very early on in the movie. When the Riot Symbiote escapes the Life Foundation’s custody, it binds with one of the first responders, and later transfers itself to an old lady. The symbiote requires the transfer from one host to another for its survival. But, even after a leap of six months, Riot still stays bound to the same lady, which is a bit illogical.
During an interview with Gamespot, when Fleischer was asked why Riot was shown bonded with the same host for six months, he said that it was necessary to show that six-month leap for Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and the same resulted in an unfortunate plot hole.
“Our idea was that Riot was using up the life force of whoever he took, and then he jumped ship when he’d consumed them and then find a new host to carry him further on his journey,” Fleischer explained. “Yeah, that’s a good question. That’s one of our few–hopefully–few logic bumps. But we had to have a passage of time in order to show Eddie’s downfall, and that was the one thing that doesn’t entirely track.”
Fleischer joked that he thinks that during the six months the old lady went around Malaysia murdering people until she was ready to confront Venom.
“But I like to think that old lady was going around murdering all throughout Malaysia, and she was just having a good old time just shooting shards through different people in Malaysia.”
While Venom failed to appeal to the critics and most of the comic book fans, the movie has still managed to open to a good box office earning. The movie is currently playing in theaters.
