It seems Sony’s Tom Hardy-led Venom movie is slowly generating quite the following among fans for itself. The Venom trailer has garnered a whopping 64 million views on YouTube, which is more than the views any previous Spider-Man film trailer has ever recorded. The trailer in question offered the first look at Hardy’s Eddie Brock’s full transformation into the iconic Symbiote alien.
According to Screen Crush, Venom has surpassed The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (37 million), Spider-Man: Homecoming (28 million), and the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (25 million) in terms of trailer views.
In fact, as per the report, the Venom trailer has also made it to the top-20 list of YouTube videos in terms of the number of views, sitting in just behind Thor: Ragnarok’s 66 million. The Avengers: Infinity War trailer is sitting right on top of the list with a record-breaking 202 million views.
Looking at the numbers, it seems fans are eagerly waiting for the film’s release to find out everything about Spider-Man’s most recognizable and fan-favorite villain. Venom possesses powers somewhat similar to Spider-Man, though his suit and web-slinging are black in color.
While Sony has kept the film’s storyline and plot details under wraps, it is expected that the film studio will go for a distinctly darker, Rated-R tone for the film similar to Wolverine and Deadpool. The Venom origin story takes inspirations from both Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book storylines. The story is centered on a reporter named Eddie Brock who gets infected with an alien symbiote that transforms him into the title character.
Sony Pictures recently showcased some exclusive Venom footage during their presentation at the CineEurope 2018 convention. It is expected that the footage will make its way online soon, either officially or unofficially.
Venom is set to debut in theaters on October 5, 2018.
