While we the fans are still waiting for the first Shazam! trailer, Warner Bros. is way ahead of us and is already having discussions of crossovers, sequels and mainly pushing the character to the spotlight along with other superheroes in the DCEU.
The recent EW issue gave us a new photo from Shazam! featuring Zachary Levi in his superhero costume. Along with the image came a heap of information about the film and the studios’ plans for the character from Producer Peter Safran and others.
It looks like Shazam! solo origin movie is just the start for the superhero as Warner Bros plan is to get the character involved with others through future crossover titles. “I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Shazam play a role in the DCU,” said Safran.
The studio is also plotting sequels already. While some may view these plans as too early, fans must also note that the studio will have to remember a hurdle factor which won’t be a problem for other superhero films to worry over. And that’s the ‘growth spurts’.
The 15-year-old Asher Angel, playing as Billy Batson won’t look like an adolescent for long. Luckily, the studio seems to be moving quickly. But Shazam! movie’s success will play a big a role for the character’s future
“We have plans in place for sequels that take into account those realities,” Safran said.
On several occasions, Director David F. Sandberg has hilariously (sometimes, creepily) hinted at crossovers through action figures. While they were clearly silly jokes, it could be possible that discussions over crossovers and possible sequels were already taking place.
This does beg the question if DC is planning a potential crossover involving Shazam, Black Adam and Superman. But at the moment, we are more on keen on knowing if the upcoming Shazam! movie will have a Man of Steel cameo. Time will tell.
Shazam! hits theatres on April 5, 2019.
