From Chris Evans, and Ryan Gosling to Ana de Armas, The Gray Man features a star-studded cast but actor Dhanush is one face that Hollywood wouldn’t be familiar with. However, the 38-year-old actor is quite popular and acclaimed for his performances in Indian cinema.
Netflix’s ambitious spy thriller, The Gray Man helmed by the Russo Brothers seems promising in delivering a guns-blazing action blockbuster. The newly released The Gray Man trailer offers a first look at Evans’ Lloyd Hansen and the reckless mystery man he’s tasked to stop, Gosling’s Courtland Gentry, a CIA trained killing machine better known by his codename “Six”. But among them is Dhanush’s mysterious character that appears barely two seconds in the preview but is still caught up in the action as well.
The Gray Man is based on Mark Greaney’s best-selling book of the same name. He also co-authored Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Universe. And Dhanush’s role is based on one of the characters from the book. Greaney also acknowledged his casting by sharing the actor’s solo poster for The Gray Man.

Who is Dhanush?
A Well-known South-Indian actor predominantly established in Kollywood (Tamil cinema) – Dhanush’s name would ring a bell for any movieholic in India. The three-time National Film Award winner (the most prestigious award in Indian cinema) is quite known for his leading performance in 2019’s Asuran, in which he also won the Best Actor. His lead role in Vada Chennai also drew praises.
Dhanush has also appeared in a few Bollywood titles with the latest alongside Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar in Atrangi Re. He’s even worked with Bollywood veteran, Amitabh Bachchan in the critically praised drama, 2015’s Shamitabh.
It’s interesting that the Russo Brothers chose a Kollywood actor for The Gray Man’s character which could possibly be a recurring role in the franchise. And going by reactions for The Gray Man trailer, Dhanush’s fanbase is excited to see what’s in store though many were left disappointed he was not largely a part of the first look. Nonetheless, the actor’s name is among the main cast so that should raise hope.
The Gray Man will be available to stream on Netflix from July 22.
