Wonder Woman 1984 is well into filming and production. It recently came to light that after wrapping up filming in Washington, D.C., the film’s cast and crew have headed to London. Now it seems their next destination will be Spain’s Canary Islands.
A Twitter user who goes by the username WonderWomanHQ has posted a picture that shows an Egyptian village set being constructed on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura in Spain. It is believed that the setting could have something to do with Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah (Kristen Wiig).
You can check out the set picture below.
In the comic book storyline, Cheetah’s origin focuses heavily on her archaeological endeavors. Her hunt for an artifact leads her to the ancient city of Urzkartaga where she encounters a supernatural tribal ritual that possesses her with the spirit of Cheetah. The Egyptian village could possibly be the place where she first gains the ability to become Cheetah. Well, whether or not the film will stay true to the character’s comic origin remains to be seen.
Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins was the one to reveal the first official look of Gal Gadot’s Diana, Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, and Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Minerva. However, fans are still waiting for the ultimate Cheetah reveal. Last month’s Wonder Woman 1984 set video showcased Wiig’s Barbara Minerva trying to attempt some sort of stunt as Cheetah as she exhibits her powers to jump significant heights.
Director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 2 will follow Diana in 1984 during the Cold War as she faces off against the Soviet Union. Jenkin’s has also co-written the film’s script along with The Expendables co-writer Dave Callaham.
As Wonder Woman 1984 is still more than a year away from its official release, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting an official trailer anytime soon. But, we can expect the set pictures to continue pouring in, all thanks to fans.
Wonder Woman 1984 is currently slated to release in theaters on November 1, 2019.
