Earlier last week, Warner Bros. officially confirmed Wonder Woman sequel at the San Diego Comic-Con. Now, the studio has made another announcement which reveals the set release date for the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled to release on December 13th, 2019. Currently, Patty Jenkins is still negotiating her return to helm the project with Warner Bros. but a deal has not yet been made.
Fans can remain positive as earlier it was revealed that Jenkins and DC film boss Geoff Johns were working on a treatment for Wonder Woman 2. Later on, reports also began stating that the sequel would take place in the 1980s where the female superhero will go up against the Soviets. Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed it yet. But it’s possible for the studio to give some insight on its plot when they announce the director.
At present, Wonder Woman 2 is the only project confirmed for 2019. But an earlier report also stated that Shazam! could likely get a 2019 release as well.
Currently, fans are also expecting the studio to give an update on Matt Reeves’ The Batman standalone project. The director had earlier mentioned he requested the studio for a break after wrapping War for the Planet of the Apes.
As Reeves is also starting The Batman from scratch, the director would have to first turn in a treatment, prepare and get the script green lighted before heading to production. but it is still possible for the project to get a 2019 release date.
Wonder Woman is Warner Bros. first critical acclaimed DC film since its failure with Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad in 2016. The female led superhero film has grossed over $780 million at the box office worldwide.
