Wonder Woman 2 will reportedly see the faceoff between Diana Prince a.k.a Wonder Woman and the classic DC comics’ villainess Cheetah. Cheetah will be the main antagonist of the film. DC Extended Universe’s Wonder Woman was one of the most successful films of 2017. The film, which was made on a $149 million budget, grossed $822 million worldwide. The film’s massive success pushed Warner Bros. to give a green-lit to a Wonder Woman sequel.
According to That Hashtag Show, Wonder Woman 2 storyline is set against the ’80s background and will take place during the end of the Cold War. The film will “follow Diana Prince into the 1980s where she will (somehow) reunite with Steve Trevor to take on the now-dissolved Soviet Union” with Cheetah emerging somewhere in the mix.
As per the report, Warner Bros. had earlier approached Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone to play the character of Cheetah, but she turned down the offer. This means that the hunt for a probable actor for the role is still on. The character Cheetah was introduced in the Wonder Woman comic in 1943. It has appeared in four incarnations over the past 75 years.
The Wonder Woman sequel will reportedly feature Cheetah as Barbara Ann Minerva, a British anthropologist who becomes the avatar of a cheetah god after mistakenly finding her way into an ancient ritual.
Wonder Woman 2 is slated to land in theaters on November 1, 2019. Director Patty Jenkins will return to helm the project. Jenkins will also be co-writing the film’s screenplay alongside Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham.
Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Ewen Bremner and Said Taghmaoiu will all be seen reprising their roles of Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor, Charle and Sameer respectively in the upcoming movie. The sequel’s production work is expected to begin in the U.K. this summer.
We will bring you more updates on Wonder Woman 2 cast and storyline as it comes.
