Patty Jenkins has offered more insight on the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 and according to the WW84 director, there were no options to move forward with the Gal Gadot-led threequel project due to the ongoing reshaping of the DCU multimedia landscape at Warner Bros. Pictures. DC Studios chief James Gunn has also responded to the filmmaker’s statement.
Jenkins has been at the center of controversy since news broke last week that WB’s chairpersons Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy had rejected the treatment submitted for Wonder Woman 3. It was noted that the execs offered the director a chance to rewrite the script/story but the director had reportedly refused the opportunity to walk away. However, the filmmaker has a different story to tell, calling out the scathing report by The Wrap as “the attractive clickbait false story”.
The statement from the ex-Wonder Woman 3 director began by saying, “I’m not one to talk about private career matters, but I will not allow inaccuracies to continue.” she then went on to state the “facts”. She initially addressed the backlash surrounding the axing of Wonder Woman 3 but denied reports “that it was me that killed it or walked away”.
Patty Jenkins further clarified, “It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”
Is Patty Jenkins possibly still open to returning to the franchise even after Wonder Woman 3 fiasco?
One of the highlights of her statement is Jenkins offering her blessing for the studio to forge ahead with the character’s story. “I wish her and her legacy an amazing future ahead, with or without me.” Her last sentence indicates a glimmer of hope for fans hoping the director could be open to returning after Gunn and Peter Safran have unveiled their 10-year-plan.
Speaking of whom, the DC Studios CEO also offered his own side of the story, “I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.” This comes after claims that Patty Jenkins denied meeting or hearing out James Gunn & Peter Safran although the duo had no part in axing the third installment.
It was also noted that Patty Jenkins had e-mailed a Wikipedia link defining “characters arc” as a way to stress the importance of her treatment in completing the story she set out with the first Wonder Woman film. The internet seems fairly divided with some hoping Gunn brings back Jenkins while others are content over her exit. Readers can check it out below.

I can attest that all of Peter and my interactions with you were only pleasant and professional.

I probably would’ve been excited for a Patty directed Wonder Woman 3 if it had the same creative team from Wonder Woman 1 supporting her.
Toss out Geoff Johns garbage script, rework the script with Allan Heinberg, and bring back the OG stunt crew. pic.twitter.com/gMupJ4VjHw

It’s honestly pretty sexist how Patty Jenkins makes one movie people don’t like and suddenly she should never make a film again but the likes of Robert Zemeckis, M. Night Shyamalan, Michael Bay, and Tim Burton are able to easily find work despite being true mixed bags lately.

Basically, she says that:
> she left RS because it is development limbo & worried that it could affect production of WW3.
> she tried to address the rumor of her rejected WW3 script by saying that DC is experiencing changes in higher ups, so no decision could be made rn.

I’m there for anything Patty Jenkins decides to direct next. Never had any question about that.

Glad to know you did not walk away from the project. There are certain directors and actors chemistry studios should not mess with. I pray WB does not remove you from the project & Gal. That would be a huge mistake again on their part. While I was not a fan of WW84 I maintain…

Without knowing who from WB told the trades and The Wrap about Patty Jenkins' WW3 treatment issues, you can't assume the studio as a whole was trying to slander her. Gunn certainly hasn't.
You also can't assume she's out of the DCU plan completely yet. She isn't saying that.

Highly disagree with the way WBD has treated you. Best of luck Patty.

You did very well in clarifying, Patty!
I knew that there was something very off with those pieces & the sexist way they’ve been reported by the media. They should at least have checked with you first.
I feel bad that you’re having to go through this, in this day and age…— Luiz Fernando (@Luiz_Fernando_J) December 14, 2022
We love you, Patty.
Thanks for setting the record straight.
You're one of my favorite directors working today, and I cannot wait to see whatever your next film turns out to be.

So Wonder Woman 3 will still happen. Probably. Just not now.
— Munro McLaren (@MunroMcLaren) December 14, 2022
You can still bring her back and work on a new script.

There have been rumblings on the DCU rumor mill lately indicating the DC Bible plan may have or could be in the process of being pitched to WBD’s boss David Zaslav. It’s largely being suggested a mid-reboot could be in place rather than the new chief completely wiping the slate clean.
Meanwhile, it’s unclear if Jenkins would shift her focus to the Star Wars franchise’s Rogue Squadron. While she revealed the project was still in active development, she also clarified, “I don’t know if it will happen or not. We never do until the development process is complete”. Though, Lucasfilm has signed a new deal with the filmmaker.
