During the Justice League promotional press tour to China, Gal Gadot, who plays Diana Prince /Wonder Woman in the film explained in detail about her character’s continuity post the origin film.
Wonder Woman fans know that she (Diana Prince) walked away from mankind after WWI. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans wondered why she spend 100 years hiding from the world.
The words ‘walked away’ is what fans understood and interpreted from her words in the film Dawn of Justice. Standing at a distance from the grave of Clark Kent, along with Bruce Wayne, she told him that she was not too optimistic about his mission to unite all superheroes and form a team. “A hundred years ago I walked away from mankind; from a century of horrors. Men made a world where standing together is impossible,” Wonder Woman had said.
In her recent press tour to China to promote Justice League, Gal Gadot spoke about Diana and put light on her character. “None of us knew exactly the back-story of Wonder Woman. When we decided to dig in to understand the core of this character, we realize that there is actually no way that wonder woman will give up on mankind. The reason to why she left the island was because she wanted to make their life safer and better. They are her calling. So I am giving you a very honest answer. That it was sometimes …you know, in a creative process, you establish something that is not necessarily the right decision but then you can always correct it and change it. So, Wonder Woman will always be there as far as she is concerned for mankind.”
Fans concluded from her words ‘walked away from mankind’ that she was very bitter about what happened during World War I and she has now left them to their fate. It was like she was living a secret life and hiding her powers for so many years.
So, it seems like Diana has not walked with mankind for a century, but now she needs to defend it from an enemy that is far greater than the God of War – the God of Apokolips.
Justice League will release in theaters on November 17, 2017.
