It seems X-Men: Dark Phoenix makers are not going to reshoot much of the film as even the actors are not aware of what is being currently reshot. Back in March, 20th Century Fox announced that they have decided to push Dark Phoenix’s release date from November 2018 to February 2019 to undergo reshoots.
During a recent interview with Digital Spy, actress Sophie Turner, who portrays the central character of Jean Grey, said she’s not sure which sequences in Dark Phoenix are being reshot.
“I think it’s just a few bits and bobs, reshoot-wise,” Turner said. “To be honest, I don’t even know what we’re reshooting at the moment. So I couldn’t really tell you much about that one.”
The actress said that she is just positive about X-Men: Dark Phoenix’s February release date which falls on the Valentine’s Day, the same time when Marvel Studio’s massively successful Black Panther was released.
“All I know is that I’ll be back in Montreal at some point soon and that Valentine’s Day release date is quite a positive thing because Black Panther got released on Valentine’s Day,” Turner said. “So we’re keeping positive about it.”
Talking more about X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the actress said that the upcoming film would be much different as compared to the mutant team’s last film, X-Men: Apocalypse. It will be much more grounded and full of emotions.
“This movie is kind of a lot more emotion-based, much more grounded,” Turner explained. “There are, of course, those supernatural elements, but this one is really character-driven – a really emotional story about a girl battling with a deadly mix of mental health problems and being a superhero. So it’s all wrapped up into one, and it’s a movie about struggle and abandonment and not knowing yourself. Yeah, an internal struggling. It’s so, so interesting. It’s such a departure from the last movie.”
The X-men actress described her experience of working on the film as “emotional” and “a real tester”.
“I put my heart and soul into that movie,” she said. “It was so fun, but it was such a stretch.”
The film studio is expected to unveil Dark Phoenix’s first look and even the film’s trailer at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2018 event.
Directed by Simon Kinberg, X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Alexandra Ship as Storm, and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler.
