Amid rumors of X-Men: Dark Phoenix getting canceled post Disney’s acquisition with 20th Century Fox, director Simon Kinberg has posted a behind-the-scenes picture from the set of X-Men: Dark Phoenix on his Instagram story to confirm that the film is still pretty much alive.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix was initially scheduled to release in November this year. However, after a test screening, the filmmakers felt that they needed to add some additional scenes. So they pushed the film’s release date to February 14, 2019, to add room for re-shoots.

Previously reports claimed that the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix was set to undergo three months of extensive reshoots in Montreal. However, a new report coming from Collider claims that Dark Phoenix‘s reshoots will, in fact, only span about two-and-a-half weeks. Two months is a standard amount of time required for a big blockbuster to undergo additional photography. It is on par with the time spent by Marvel Studios for reshooting movies like Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok.

Last month during an interview, actress Sophie Turner, Sophie Turner, who plays the titular Phoenix, said she’s not sure which sequences in Dark Phoenix are being reshot.

I think it’s just a few bits and bobs, reshoot-wise,” Turner said. “To be honest, I don’t even know what we’re reshooting at the moment. So I couldn’t really tell you much about that one.”

Turner said that she is happy about X-Men: Dark Phoenix’s new Valentine’s Day release date as it’s the same day when Marvel Studio’s Black Panther was released.

All I know is that I’ll be back in Montreal at some point soon and that Valentine’s Day release date is quite a positive thing because Black Panther got released on Valentine’s Day,” Turner said. “So we’re keeping positive about it.”

Directed by Simon Kinberg,  X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, James McAvoy as Professor Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Ship as Storm, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler and Jessica Chastain in a mystery role.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will arrive in theaters on February 14, 2019.
