Back in March, fans were disappointed on knowing that 20th Century Fox had postponed the release of two X-Men movies- X-Men: Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants to next year. It was reported that both the films will undergo extensive reshoots and additional photography, which is the new normal with big Hollywood projects.
While fans are worried about the future of the two films, X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg claims that everything is going smoothly. Kinberg revealed to Entertainment Weekly that big-budget films are no stranger to reshoots. He added that they are just facing some scheduling conflict with Dark Phoenix’s large cast which includes A-list star actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, and Michael Fassbender.
The additional photography was originally scheduled to take place sometime this summer. But now, the timeframe for the planned reshoots is up in the air because of the actors’ busy schedules.
“It’s normal for all these big movies now,” Kinberg said. “We’ll go back when we can get all those actors together, and then it will give me enough time to have it ready and looking perfect.”
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently scheduled to release on February 14, 2019. Another X-men franchise film, The New Mutants, has been pushed back to August 2, 2019. The film is reportedly undergoing heavy reshoots, including possibly adding a new character.
During the interview, Kinberg also discussed the X-Force movie which will be written and directed by Drew Goddard. He revealed that not all the members of the X-Force group that we see in Deadpool 2 will make it to the next X-Force movie.
“Drew, Ryan, and I sat down and talked quite a bit about what X-Force would be, but we haven’t on settled who those characters are yet,” Kinberg said. “But certainly we’d want Cable and Domino to be part of it.”
The X-Men producer also offered some positive update about Channing Tatum’s X-Men spin-off Gambit solo movie. He revealed that the film is moving forward in the right direction.
