Back in 2016, the 27-year-old Academy Award-winning actress donated $2 million to the hospital in order to create the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The unit is meant to offer enough space for families to stay with their children who are yet to recover from heart surgeries. The center was then called Kosair Children’s Hospital.
In a 2016 press release, Lawrence spoke about the strength and courage of the children that have inspired her and her family. She had said, “My family and I have met so many wonderful children on our visits to the hospital. Their strength and courage is inspiring.”
Norton Children’s Hospital Heart Center accommodates more than 5,000 children every year. The center performs nearly 18,000 procedures each year that includes open heart surgeries, catheterizations, electrophysiology, and noninvasive tests such as echocardiograms.
