Zachary Levi, along with his friend Eric Blackmon has headed towards Toronto in preparation for his upcoming DC film Shazam.
Zachary Levi, in a video posted on his Instagram account is seen sitting alongside his photographer and recent workout friend Eric Blackmon. The actor, in the video said:
“We’re going to Toronto, guys. We’re going to Toronto to make a little movie called Shazam!”
The movie, to be directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation), was in the development stage for a very long time. Fans were beginning to wonder if Warner Bros. have any plans to go ahead with the movie or not. Just then, the film caught their attention when Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson announced that he would be playing Black Adam, the bad guy. However, Johnson soon left for his own standalone outing.
Regarding Johnson leaving the project, Levi had said:
“I think they’ve got a great plan over there with him and I wish those guys the best of luck. We had to split the idea because the obviously idea was Black Adam and Shazam. So we split it. Those guys are gonna do great with it.”
It is not sure how Shazam will be greeted by the audience since it introduces a lesser known DC character. DCEU is still trying to recover from the backlash they received for all their recent films. Their latest outing Justice League received a lukewarm response at the domestic box office, and so Shazam in that sense would be their biggest gamble.
A lot of casting details for the film have been coming out from the studio. A few days ago, Asher Angel, who plays the younger version of Billy Batson, announced his arrival on the Shazam set by posting two behind-the-screen photos.
The film is the story of Billy Batson, who can transform himself into an adult superhero by simply uttering the magic word ‘Shazam.’
Written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke, Shazam is scheduled to release sometime in April 2019.
