Zachary Levi, who will play the title role in Shazam movie, is of the opinion that the film will do for DC Extended Universe what James Gunn directed Guardians of the Galaxy did for Marvel.
Things have caught pace for Shazam as a lot of little and big details are making its way to the internet. While the hiring of the star-cast is still underway, Zachari Levi, who plays Billy Batson/Shazam in the movie, praised James Gunn for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in San Jose this weekend.
“James Gunn and the gang killed it. It brought so much heart and humor and yeah, I think it was kind of like this dark horse that took everybody by storm and I think Shazam kind of has the possibility to do that because Shazam’s not, for all intents and purposes, not Supes it’s not Batman, it’s not Wonder Woman, it’s not what most of the people expect,” said Levi.
Zachary Levi then went on to talk about the possibility of his character interacting with bigger heroes by pointing out to the audience that the character in the comics is part of the League. Levi said, “If you look at most Justice League montages or Justice League posters Shazam is not necessarily one of the characters you put on there except he is in the justice league.”
The upcoming DC film is the story of a young boy named Billy Batson, who is able to transform himself into an adult superhero by just uttering the magic word “Shazam.”
The screenplay for the film is written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. The plan of Warner Bros. is to bring the character into the larger DC Universe that already has superheroes Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman, and Cyborg. Producer of Annabelle: Creation, Peter Safran will reunite with director David F. Sandberg for the film.
Shazam is expected to release in theaters in April 2019.
