Ace filmmaker Zack Snyder is finally ready to head back to work with a zombie horror thriller titled Army of the Dead for Netflix. The director stepped away from movies during the making of 2017’s Justice League to deal with his daughter’s death, letting Joss Whedon handle reshoots and finish Justice League’s postproduction work.
The news that Snyder is making a comeback has already excited fans who have long waited to see him return to the director’s chair. They immediately took to Twitter and other social media platforms to express their excitement over Snyder’s next directing project being announced.
Fans are happy that Snyder is making a comeback with a zombie film, after previously making his directorial debut with Universal Pictures’ Dawn of the Dead. Some have even come up with suggestions on the names of actors whom they would like to see leading Snyder’s film.
You can check out their reactions in the tweets below.
According to the report coming from the Hollywood Reporter, Snyder will also produce Army of the Dead with his partner and wife Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller through their newly rebranded production company, Stone Quarry. He also came up with the story for the upcoming zombie film, which has a script by Joby Harold.
As per the report, Army of the Dead will take place during a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas and see a team of mercenaries venture into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
The film was originally set up at Warner Bros. back in 2007, but it is now taken over by Netflix. The movie is expected to have a $90 million budget and the principal photography is set to commence later this summer.
“There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one,” Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter. “I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way.”
Snyder is excited about the fact that he is completely free to make Army of the Dead as the way he wants.
“I love to honor canon and the works of art, but this is the opportunity to find a purely joyful way to express myself through a genre,” the Justice League director explained. “It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen. No one’s ever let me completely loose [like this].”
Army of the Dead doesn’t have a release date attached yet.
