Netflix has released a first look for The Archies, A Bollywood adaptation of the American comic book characters Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Sabrina & more. The movie helmed by Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara director Zoya Akhtar features newcomers Suhana Khan, Agasta Nanda, Khushi Kapoor and more.
Just three weeks into production and the makers have already put together a 1-minute teaser offering a glimpse of the musical live-action’s Disney-esque teen drama. Archie fans are already delighted to see the film’s vintage aesthetic and feel-good vibe from the first look.
The teaser seems promising as India’s version of Riverdale but The Archies is set in the 1960s. The movie also features Dot., Mihir Ahuja, Yuvraj Menda and Vedang Raina as leads. The teaser doesn’t reveal any plot details instead shows the gang having a fun time together, resembling the Friends intro.
The development of an Archie comic’s live-action for Bollywood was first announced in 2018 as a team-up project between Archie Comics and Graphic India. Years later and it’s now shaping up into a Netflix musical project. While B-town’s celebs such as Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar and more have all been showering praises, some critics and movieholics have brought up the Nepotism debate for casting the sons and daughters of Bollywood’s A-listers. It remains to be seen what the general reaction will be to the upcoming flick.
The movie still has a long way into production in fact the start of principal photography was only announced on April 18 by producer Reema Kagti with a photo of the film’s clapperboard and the working title logo. Readers can check it out below.
