While fans are awaiting the release of The First Purge movie’s trailer, the prequel which is set to hit theatres in July will be conducting reshoots this month.
A production listing on Production Weekly has revealed that Blumhouse’s upcoming The First Purge will engage in additional photography starting from April 16-22.
The reshoots will take place in New York under the working title ‘THE ISLAND’. But it won’t be affecting the film’s release date.
The First Purge producer Andrew Form revealed in a recent interview with Cinema Blend that he felt the prequel movie was “more personal than the other Purge movies.”
He added that he got to see a “long cut” version of the movie but decided to keep the details to himself in case they “end up changing it”. However, the producer still managed to hype the protagonist as a “badass” and that “it’s just a cool movie. It’s a really cool movie.”
It looks like Form made the right choice in keeping the story under wraps since the reshoots could change a potential a scene or the movie entirely. But since this is a short 6 day reshoots, it is unlikely to affect the movie but rather it could be to make it better.
Fans waiting for the first trailer can rest assure it is set to drop anytime since Form and Brad Fuller confirmed (via Den of Geek) it is coming soon.
Directed by Gerard McMurray from a screenplay written by James DeMonaco, The First Purge will premiere in theatres on July 4, 2018. In case you haven’t read the official synopsis yet, you find it below.
To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.
