In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.

Legends will collide. Production has officially begun on Godzilla vs. Kong. In theaters everywhere Summer 2020,” the tweet read accompanied by a previously seen image from Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Godzilla made its debut in the 1954 Japanese film Gojira. The character showed up in a number of follow-up films, most recently in director Gareth Edwards’ 2014 film Godzilla. King Kong first appeared in 1933 and then made appearances in a couple of films including Peter Jackson’s 2005 released King Kong and 2017’s Oscar-nominated Kong: Skull Island.

Notably, the two giant monsters have appeared once before in King Kong vs. Godzilla in 1962, with Kong getting the winner crown. It will be interesting to find out who the winner will be this time in Godzilla vs. Kong. The film will follow up another MonsterVerse film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is set to release next year on May 31.

Directed by Adam Wingard, Godzilla vs. Kong stars Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Kyle Chandler, Brian Tyree Henry, Jessica Henwick, Shun Oguri, Eiza Gonzalez, Julian Dennison, Zhang Ziyi, Demian Bichir, and Van Marten. The film will premiere in theaters on May 22nd, 2020.
