Terrifying news struck Twitter as Comic book writer and director Kevin Smith revealed that he suffered a massive heart attack on Sunday night. The unfortunate event occurred during his stand up show in Glendale, CA.
According to his schedule, Smith was to perform two shows for Kevin Smith Live! Last night. But the director decided to cancel it after his first show when he began to feel ill. Here’s what the 48 year old tweeted:
“After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”). If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!,” tweeted Smith.
Before starting the shoot, Smith also shared a photo on Instagram to sent his thanks to the independent production company, Comedy Dynamics for helping him with his stand up special.
According to ET, Smith also filmed his live podcast Hollywood Babble-On the night before the incident at the Hollywood Improv. The director had brought on his longtime friend Ralph Garman as well.
Garman also responded to the tweet bearing the sad news, “Love you buddy,” he wrote.
Fans, friends and people Hollywood are all pouring out their love and concern for Smith on Twitter. Chris Pratt also had a heartwarming tweet for the director.
Kevin Smith is well known in Hollywood for his cult classic film Clerks. Since then, he has gone on to work on many projects and recently also directed an episode for The CW’s Supergirl.

Praying for you. I will continue to. You inspired me with Clerks when I was a senior HS. I’m tagging my Lb/rb football coach who showed me the movie cause he believed in me and knew I’d be inspired. @hodge1916 🙏♥️🙏 https://t.co/syB7BiQaoY
