When Justice League was released last year it received a lukewarm response from the critics as well as the audiences. Many attributed Justice League’s box office to the tone of the film that changed completely after Joss Whedon took over the director’s chair from Zack Snyder, who left due to a family tragedy.
Those who watched Justice League last year can recall the film’s post-credit scene that featured Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) proposing an idea to Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello) to form a league of their own. The scene confirms that Lex is attempting to put together a supervillain team.
“Shouldn’t we have a league of our own?” Luthor says to Deathstroke in one of the Justice League post-credit scenes.
In the comic book storyline, Luthor goes ahead with his plan to form a supervillain group called the “Legion of Doom” along with other DC villains including Wonder Woman villain Cheetah, Aquaman villain Black Manta, and The Flash villains Captain Cold and Gorilla Grodd. So, it’s not that difficult to imagine the direction in which the Justice League arc would have headed to if the first film was a bigger hit.
According to a report coming from Revenge of the Fans, plans for the Legion of Doom dried up when Walter Hamada took over as head of DC Entertainment in January this year. As per the report, it was Hamada’s decision to put the idea on the back burner as he did not see any point in continuing to build a team of super-villains. He first wants to focus on making good standalone DC movie stories, before heading towards making crossover films.
As it’s just a rumor at the moment, we advise readers to take the information with a pinch of salt.
