Graham McTavish Thinks Aquaman Movie Is “Very Different”, Praises Director

Actor Graham McTavish, who is best recognized as the Saint of Killers on AMC’s Preacher, will soon be seen in Warner Bros and DC Films’ underwater superhero film Aquaman. Nothing much about McTavish’s role in the upcoming film has been disclosed by the makers.

During a recent interview with Collider, McTavish talked about his involvement in Aquaman. He addressed the secrecy surrounding the superhero genre movies. The Preacher actor also said he had a great time working in the film.

This business nowadays, it’s so secretive. It’s so secretive,” said McTavish. “I mean, the role in Aquaman, I had a great time doing it, but I am slightly puzzled by the level of secrecy nowadays in movies and TV and video games. I mean the number of non-disclosure agreements you have to sign even if you’re just talking to someone about doing a video game, there’s all that sort of stuff. It’s gone to a whole new level.”

McTavish joked that he has even forgotten who he’s playing in the film. He went on to praise Aquaman based on what he’s seen from the trailer.

I’ve seen the trailer, and certainly the people I’ve spoken to about it, I think it’s going to be really good,” McTavish said. “Jason’s great in it. So laid back, that guy. Barefoot, playing a bass guitar pretty much the entire time.”

The Outlander actor said that Aquaman will be very different. The use of a lot of blue screens during the shoots makes it difficult to get a sense of how things will actually look on the screen. He added that all the water movements in the film have been CG-ed as no real water was used.

I think it’s going to be very different…when you’re working on it, because there’s was so much blue screen, it was very difficult to get a sense of how this thing is going to look,” McTavish said. “Even down to all the water movement and the hair, and all the rest of it is all CG-ed. So, there’s no real water. And all of that becomes a bit disconcerting when you’re working in an environment like that after a while.”

He went ahead praising Aquaman director James Wan’s work and his ability to capture performances in the big-budget superhero production film. He added that Wan had a clear idea of what he wanted from the actors and how he wanted them to perform.

I was really impressed by his level of attention to detail, not just in the physical sense but in performance,” the Aquaman actor said. “He really really had a very clear idea of exactly how he wanted every beat to play in that film. Certainly with my involvement and it was extraordinary actually, you would spend a lot of time on things, tiny details, movements, and props, the pace of movement, things that would establish a rhythm in the movie that I found incredibly impressive.”

Aquaman will swim in theatres on December 21.
