Vision was the only character in Avengers: Infinity War who had to die twice in the film. Once in the hands of his love interest Scarlet Witch after she took out the Mind Stone from his forehead to save it from Thanos, and the second time when Thanos rewinds the time to get the stone for his Infinity Gauntlet.
During a recent interview with Wired, Avengers: Infinity War directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, talked about every single hero that appeared in the movie, their character’s role in the film, as well as their backstories.
Talking about Vision, the Russo brothers said that Vision plays a very special role in Infinity War as he is the only character who has an Infinity stone actually built into his body.
Anthony talked about one of his favorite moments in the film which was when Scarlet Witch was forced to take his life to stop Thanos from obtaining the Mind Stone.
“One of the most tragic moments in the movie, one of our favorite moments of the movie, of course, is when she has to take his life in order to stop Thanos from getting the stone by destroying the stone that’s in his head,” the director said. “And to watch those two characters approach that moment in the way that they did, really one of the most inspiring parts of the story for us.”
Anthony also discussed how actor Paul Bettany believed Vision was always seeking to understand humanity. In fact, according to the Russo brothers, Vision indeed achieved humanity in his final moments.
“Paul Bettany has always said he thinks about Vision as his primary motivation is just someone who’s seeking to understand humanity and I think that with that final gesture Vision really achieved full humanity,” the directors said.
Avengers: Infinity War is currently available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
