Last year in October it came into light that The Raid director Gareth Evans was in talks with Warner Bros. to direct a Deathstroke movie. But, there has been no news about the project since then. This left fans wondering if the studio has stalled the Deathstroke movie project. Thankfully, now, a new update has confirmed that the film is still pretty much in the pipeline.
In an interview with Variety at the world premiere of his latest film Rampage, Deathstroke actor Joe Manganiello was asked about the film, he did confirm that there are some things in the works.
“There are things in the works,” Manganiello confirmed. “That’s all I can say.”
Notably, Manganiello first showed up as Deathstroke in one of the post-credits scenes in Justice League. The scene was well received by a majority of fans. Initially, the character was supposed to feature in The Batman when Ben Affleck was writing and directing it. But after Affleck stepped down from the director’s chair, his replacement Matt Reeves decided to take The Batman movie in a different direction.
There are also rumors that fans may get to see Deathstroke in the Suicide Squad sequel film that starts filming later this year. It’s good to hear that the Deathstroke movie is still in the works, but it’s hard to imagine that the character’s solo movie will be out any time soon as DC Films still has a lot of movies in the pipeline including the highly anticipated Batman movie.
Talking more about Matt Reeves’ The Batman film, it has now been confirmed that the upcoming movie is not going to focus on Jason Todd’s death. There are rumors that Reeves might cast a new actor to play Batman in the upcoming film. Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon Hamm and Armie Hammer were the few names rumored to have been in talks for the role.
