Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War is going pretty strong even in its third week of release. It has become the fastest film in history to hit the billion-dollar mark at the global box office. The film’s massive cliffhanger has literally left audiences on the edge of their seats waiting to see more.
ABC News recently caught up with Paul Bettany, the actor who portrays Vision in Avengers: Infinity War, to know what he feels about Infinity War’s record-smashing success. The actor said that he was quite sure of the film’s success at the box office. He added that success was by no means a certainty.
“[You] feel like, ‘Of course, it’s breaking records … They made a billion dollars in 11 days,’” Bettany said.
The actor attributed the success of the film to Marvel Studio’s love for the characters.
“They really understand that … unless [the movies] … have an emotional heart to them, they don’t hold together,” he said.
Bettany also discussed the scene in Infinity War which was filmed between him and Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch, Vision’s love interest. Scarlet used her powers to protect Vision from two of Thanos’ enforcers. However, at the end of the film, she is forced to make the ultimate sacrifice, killing her love to keep the Mind Stone in his forehead out of Thanos’ hands.
Unfortunately, Thanos was able to get the stone by killing Vision, resulting in the use of the Infinity Gauntlet to kill half of the universe, including some of MCU’s most iconic superheroes. The question that is bothering fans is whether Vision’s character will get a second life in Avengers 4 or if it’s already the end for him.
When asked about the future of Vision’s character in the MCU, Bettany chose to remain silent despite knowing the answer.
“I happen to know what’s going to happen to me, and … what I can tell fans is that, ‘Snitches end up with stitches in ditches,'” Bettany joked. “And I, I’ve done very well keeping my mouth shut for the last 10 years, and I’m going to continue to keep my mouth shut.”
Avengers: Infinity War is currently playing in theaters now.
