Two years after the release, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder has finally come up with an explanation as to why Batman would use a spear to combat Superman despite having access to all sorts of technology. Snyder shared a metaphor in a post on his official Vero account that shows a picture of Jesus Christ hanging on the cross, with the Spear of Destiny, Holy Lance being used by a Roman soldier to stab him.
The image is captioned, “Why with all of the technology at his disposal would Batman build a spear? Here’s why.”
While interacting with a fan, Snyder further confirmed the symbolism saying that he had a lot of discussions with writer Chris Terrio on how to layer the Spear of Destiny, Holy Lance symbolism with Gordian knot allegories.
While some fans agreed with Synder’s comparison between Superman and Jesus, others found it to be distasteful. You can check out the post below.
Snyder also recently opened up about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s ‘Knightmare’ timeline. In a response to a fan on Twitter, the director offered an explanation as to why Superman turned evil in the ‘Knightmare’ scene. In the scene, Ben Affleck’s Batman wakes up and finds himself in a dystopian landscape. He is shocked to find that Superman (Henry Cavill) has turned evil.
Snyder explained that Superman turning bad was actually an indirect consequence of the emotional devastation from Lois Lane’s (Amy Adams) death that made Superman susceptible to a certain Equation, making him fall under the control of Darkseid.
“If someone lost someone close to them they might become susceptible to a certain equation and might blame a certain bat for events that a too soon Bruce would know nothing about,” Snyder said.
