Henry Cavill finally speaks out on his fan-casting as Captain Britain for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, it seems the Superman star has given it a thought, especially with his DCEU’s Man of Steel role in the backburner.
Cavill’s spotlight in Hollywood has broadened largely ever since his involvement in Netflix’s The Witcher. But aside from his rush of excitement for the fantasy series’s upcoming season 2 release, the 38-year-old action hero still shares an interest to revisit superhero role, though this time, in the Marvel Universe.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill was questioned if he’d be keen on playing an MCU role in the potential future. Surprisingly, the actor acknowledged the ongoing interest among fans to see him don as the English superhero but of course, with a modern retelling of Brian Braddock, similar to Chris Evans’ Captain America.
“I’m never going to say a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else because everyone’s doing such an amazing job,” said Cavill. “However, I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.”
Going by Twitter reactions, Henry Cavill fans are delighted by the idea, although a huge part of the community hopes to see the action hero don the cape as Superman again for DC Cinematic Universe. Furthermore, Kingsman director Mattew Vaughn and Mission Impossible helmer Christopher McQuarrie are certain the actor would “make an excellent Bond.” Tweets from fans and critics can be found below.

I love that we live in a world where an A-list actor knows who Captain Britain is. https://t.co/kTgTJOpyCA

I'm down with Henry Cavill cast in the MCU as whatever, but like, WB still needs to keep him as Superman. Imagine losing Superman to Marvel Studios…and imagine going from Superman, the godfather of all Superheroes…to Captain Britain.

If cavill is hired by Kevin feige to be captain Britain it would be a total embarrassment to wb management, one to follow previous failures such as letting nolan go

The UK green-lighting (perhaps reviving) their own Captain Britain program post-Snap would make a lot of sense. https://t.co/8Lx9YBjU8X

He fits the part, physique-wise, and is a good enough actor. It would be interesting if he takes the Captain Britain role but still does DC films as Superman at the same time.

Cavill’s filming schedule remains tight at the moment with the star currently filming Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2 starring beside Millie Bobby Brown. Next up, the actor will star in an action-fantasy reboot of Highlander, helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski. Vaughn also hopes to set up a potential action thriller spy franchise with Cavill front and center.
Captain Britain and Black Knight connection in Marvel Universe
Marvel Studios could explore a route of introducing Captain Britain in MCU Phase 4 since the character shares ties with Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman/Black Knight from Eternals in Marvel lore. Added, Captain Britain’s abilities are invoked by mystical elements revolving around magic and the multiverse. As shows like Loki, WandaVision and the upcoming Spider-Man; No Way Home also thread on the same lines, there’s no telling what could conspire in the upcoming Marvel film slate.
