Warner Bros. has finally rolled out the first trailer for the highly anticipated film Mowgli. Directed by Andy Serkis, the film is based on Rudyard Kipling‘s iconic novel The Jungle Book which is the story of a boy who was brought up by wolves in the jungles of India.
Notably, Sekis’ interpretation of Mowgli is darker in tone and more emotionally powerful as compared to Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book which opened in April of 2016. The 2016 released film a huge hit and earned a whopping $966 million at the global box office. The director claims that his film has different layers which will appeal to audiences of all ages.
Serkis’ Jungle Book film features a stacked cast of talented actors including Christian Bale as Bagheera, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, Jack Reynor, Naomie Harris as Nisha, and Serkis himself as Baloo. Rohan Chand is portraying the titular character of Mowgli in the film. You can check out the film’s trailer below.
In addition to the trailer, Warnes Bros. has also released another behind the scenes video in which Andy Serkis explains about the making of the film and its characters. In the video clip, the director explained that he wanted to engage much more closely with the tone of Kipling’s book. He added that the film is not much of a child’s fairytale as it has some reality attached to it.
Serkis went on to explain that his film Mowgli has a much darker approach to storytelling. The director said that after directing films like Caesar and Gollum, Mowgli was the only film that he was most drawn to. He also praised the work of all the actors in the film.
Serkis revealed that Bale’s performance as Bagheera added a phenomenal warmth and real love to the character’s bond with Mowgli. He said that Cumberbatch was a magnificent choice for the role of Shere Khan. The director also praised the work done by Cate Blanchett as Kaa and Rohan Chand as Mowgli who goes on a quest to find his own identity in the film.
