The last time we heard about Warner Bros. Green Lantern Corps film was back in July 2017 when it was reported that the film studio was in talks with Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) to direct the Green Lantern reboot film. Now, if a new report is to be believed, Warner Bros. is keen on having Oscar-winning director Christopher McQuarrie on board to direct the Green Lantern Corps film.
Christopher McQuarrie is best known for directing Jack Reacher, Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation and the upcoming Mission: Impossible-Fallout. He has also written screenplays for Jack the Giant Slayer, The Edge of Tomorrow and 2017’s The Mummy.
If fans have noticed, in all the movies helmed by McQuarrie, the leading actor is none other than Tom Cruise. That Hashtag Show speculates that if McQuarrie gets on board to direct Green Lantern Corps, there are high chances that Tom Cruise will get signed up to play the role of Hal Jordan in the film.
Interestingly, The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez has claimed that Warner Bros. was in talks with McQuarrie only last October and they couldn’t come to a deal. He pointed out that the report from That Hashtag Show is quite old.
Green Lantern Corps was first announced in October of 2014. It was reported that David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes were hired to write the script for the film. As there has been no update about the film in the last few years, some fans took it to believe that Green Lantern Corps might have been shelved. But, thankfully, in January 2018, David S. Goyer, who is co-writing the film’s script, came forward and announced that the movie is “still in the works.” The movie is expected to arrive sometime in 2020.
